Survey Day

We met the broker at the boat and the surveyor arrived shortly after. Wow, what a educational process. We learned so much not only about Nepenthe but about sailboats. We took her sailing for the sea trial and had her hauled out of the water and got a good look at her bottom. It was so very interesting watching the process of the slings going under the boat and the lift pulling her out of the water, then the lift rolling the boat over land.

Once Nepenthe was out of the water we were going to have her power washed if needed but glad to have it recommended that it was NOT needed. However she did need a new zinc put on which was a very inexpensive and simple process. The propeller  is three bladed bronze.

Nepenthe has an encapsulated keel. The anti-fouling bottom paint was in good shape, of course since it is only 6 months old. The surveyor sounded the bottom of the hull with a phenolic hammer with no evidence of blisters or delimitation on her bottom.

Brian inspected all the through haul fittings and all looks to be in good shape. The rudder is a fiberglass and in good condition, no excess play and swung easily both ways.

Of course I had to pose with Nepenthe. By the way I am smiling you can tell how excited I was. Definitely an exciting and educational day.

Once she was put back into the water and back into her home slip, the survey continued, and we asked a lot of questions. It was so interesting learning all about Nepenthe.
